I started out as a building site labourer before serving a plumbing apprenticeship. I wanted to know more about our environment and its effect on human performance and several part-time courses later I achieved a 1st class degree in Building Services Engineering, which led to me becoming a Design Engineer with Toshiba UK, where I was promoted to Head of UK Construction Sales and got to work with some of the best designers in the world creating construction products for the European and Asian markets.
Having won a scholarship to study for an MBA at the London Business School, I was introduced to the late Tony Pidgley in 2002, the founder of Berkeley Homes. Tony offered me a job as a regional MD and I was lucky enough to deliver some of the London’s most high profile mixed use projects. In 2007 I became Major Projects Director in Countryside Properties London office and later went on to become Land Director with St Modwen Homes. More recently, I've run my own development company and been a non-exec director of private house builders, housing associations and a consultant for the UK Design Council (CABE), advising on housing economics and design. I'm currently developing a new business with colleagues from University of Cambridge, that is utilising artificial intelligence to improve the planning system.
In the 1990’s I was South of England Middleweight Kickboxing Champion and received my black-belt in 1994. Between 2009-2015 I achieved the elite qualifying time for over 40’s in the London Marathon, completed the UK Winter Tough Guy and came first in my age group at the London River Rat Race.
In addition to my BSc and MBA I also hold a Postgraduate Diploma (DipFS) in Finance from the University of Oxford, and a Masters Degree (MSt) in the Design of the Built Environment at the University of Cambridge.
